Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The last kilometre in January, when it stops being a road.

The G-Class is the car we send north when the lodge is at the end of a private road that nobody has ploughed. Three locking differentials, low-range gearing and studded tyres on request — delivered to Rovaniemi or Kittilä so the drive north is a flight, not a day.

The cabin

Square outside, finished like a saloon inside

The G-Class keeps its upright glass and flat sides, which means visibility that modern SUVs have largely given up on — useful on a narrow mountain road with a drop on one side. Inside it is trimmed to the same standard as an S-Class.

In Lapland the tall, square boot takes skis, snowshoes and a week of cold-weather clothing for four, and the upright glass gives clear sight lines on a private lodge road where the edges are hidden under snow.

Lapland lodges

The lodge at the end of the track

The best stays in Finnish Lapland are the hardest to reach: wilderness lodges and glass cabins at the end of long private roads, where the last kilometre in January is compacted snow over ice. The GLS reaches most of them. The G-Class reaches the rest, which is why it is in the Finnish fleet at all.

For couples and small groups it is also simply the most enjoyable car to drive in the snow — upright, precise, and entirely unbothered by conditions that would stop a normal SUV.

Delivery in Finland

The G-Class from Helsinki to Lapland

Almost every Finnish G-Class booking is a Lapland booking. We meet your flight at Rovaniemi or Kittilä with the cabin warm and studded tyres fitted on request, and collect from the lodge or the airport at the end of the week.

Winter tyres are a legal requirement in the Finnish winter and are fitted from October to April at no cost, studded on request. Tallinn and Stockholm sailings are permitted, and cross-border travel into Sweden and Norway is noted on the papers.

Questions

Renting the G-Class in Finland

Can the Mercedes-Benz G-Class be delivered in Rovaniemi or Levi?

Both are regular delivery points for the cars we send north. Fly in and the car meets you at Rovaniemi or Kittilä with the cabin already warm, rather than driving a thousand kilometres to begin the holiday.

Does the G-Class have studded tyres?

Winter tyres are a legal requirement in the Finnish winter and are fitted on every car from October to April at no cost. Studded tyres are available on request.

Is the G-Class suitable for Lapland in January?

It is the most capable car we deliver in Lapland. With studded tyres fitted it reaches lodges at the end of unploughed private roads that other cars will not — and we will tell you honestly if a road is not passable.

How many people does the G-Class seat?

Five, with a tall square boot that takes three hard cases or a set of ski bags without folding seats down.

Can I swap to a different car mid-rental?

Yes. If the weather changes or plans do, a swap is part of the concierge service rather than a new booking, subject to availability.

The G-Class is also delivered in Norway and Sweden.
